What is functional nutrition?

Integrative and Functional Nutrition therapy is a leading-edge, evidence-based, and systems biology approach to patient care that focuses on identifying root causes and system imbalances to significantly improve patient health outcomes.

Why Functional medicine/nutrition?

It's all too often that conventional medical approaches to your health problems are more focused on the masking of symptoms vs. the identification of the root cause. Simply put it's the difference between taking pain meds and putting a bandaid over a splinter, instead of identifying and removing the splinter. More on functional medicine here.

So should i stop going to my normal doctor?

Conventionally practicing doctors are highly educated people who are incredibly skilled at helping a variety of patients. However, if you are not feeling your best, but are told by your doctor that you are "not sick enough" to be treated with conventional techniques (medication/surgery), you may find more answers from a functional medicine practitioner. There is no reason to settle for feeling less than your best. The best course of action is to keep seeing both types of doctors as they both have unique knowledge and skills.

So are you a functional medicine practioner?

No. I am not a doctor and am not certified in functional medicine. I am a nationally registered dietitian, licensed to practice medical nutrition therapy in the state of Ohio. I am currently studying for a certificate in functional nutrition through the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy (IFNA). I have 5 years of experience in the style of functional nutrition.

What are your specialties?

I have the most experience in working with clients with weight issues, diabetes, digestive disorders, and hormone dysfunction. No matter what my clients goals, the results usually include better sleep quality, higher energy levels, some weight loss, clearer skin, fewer cravings, and reduction of digestive symptoms.

What does a consultation look like?

Our initial consultation is more for me to get to know more about you, your health, and your goals. I will usually do a bit of education during our first chat, but mostly will be letting you talk and answer questions about your life and what you are hoping to accomplish. The more information the better, so if you have recent labs, or any recent changes in health, have that info handy. The point of our consultation is to get enough information for me to make the best recommendation on what kind of plan you need.

How will our sessions be carried out?

That is up to you. I do my nutrition work virtually, and while most of my programs are built around email support as a foundation, individual coaching sessions may be carried out over the phone or via video conference.
